Tang Contemporary Art Beijing Space I is proud to announce the opening of “Time Lapse” a dual solo exhibition for Chinese artist Chen Yujun and Thai artist PannaphanYodmanee at 4 p.m. on May 12, 2018. The exhibition will run until June 30, and will include a range of mixed media, painting, collage and installation works.
The works of both Chen Yujun and Pannaphan Yodmanee present interlocking and multi-layered regional, cultural, and religious connections and visions. These two artists draw on slices of the real world and lived memory, exploring changes to individual identifications, collective modes of living, and social structures amidst the sustained movement of culture. Together, their work presents a new chronicle of Asia that spans temporal and spatial circumstances.
Chen Yujun
Chen Yujunwas born in 1976 in the Fujian Province, China. He graduated with an MFA from the Department of Comprehensive Art at the China Academy of Art in 2007. Chen Yujun lives and works in Shanghai, China.
Chen’s work reevaluates the emotional bond to one’s homeland in a modern context whereby the migrant’s tribulation is shared across generations. Chen’s continued interest in the affinities between personal and social history as well as natural and manmade space take precedent in this ambitious presentation. He is collected by the DSLcollection, Paris, France; Long Museum, Shanghai, China; M+ Museum, Hong Kong; and White Rabbit Collection, Sydney, Australia.
PANNAPHAN YODMANEE
Pannaphan Yodmanee (b. 1988) is part of the new generation of Thai artists. She focuses on the relationship between Buddhist doctrine and human nature. Through her work, she explores Buddhist philosophy and cosmology, including the universal themes of time, destruction, and death. She paints traditional Thai paintings on rocks, minerals, and other natural materials, adding Buddhist architectural elements to construct an artistic space that transcends the religious spirit.
