Tang Contemporary Art is proud to present “Simplicity Serenade”, a solo show for Thai artist Kitti Narod, opening on August 26, 2023 in the gallery’s Beijing headquarters space.

Art has long been a powerful medium for expressing emotions, challenging societal norms, and celebrating the myriad facets of human identity. Thai artist Kitti Narod stands as a shining example of an artist who masterfully wields his brush to convey his way of seeing the world while embracing a simple and playful style. His newest exhibition “Simplicity Serenade” is a gentle embrace of uncomplicated beauty, celebrating the profound impact of simplicity, inviting us to embark on a journey of pure delight and introspection.

Characterized by its childlike simplicity, fresh colors, and unconventional perspectives, Narod’s style lends a unique charm to his work, approachable yet thought-provoking. His creations have an almost dreamlike quality, inviting viewers to step into a world where reality and imagination intermingle. In embracing the simplicity of his language, Narod defies conventional notions of artistic sophistication, showing that simplicity can be a conduit for profound expression.

Part of this exhibition are a number of artworks masterfully created to evoke a sense of silent wonderment. Through Narod’s eyes, the essence of everyday moments is captured in brushstrokes that whisper of life's exquisite simplicity. From scenes of everyday moments, to candid snapshots of unadorned joy, the show illuminates the extraordinary within the ordinary.

The artworks on display transcend complexity, opting instead for the elegant allure of synthesis. Each piece becomes a melodic note in the serenade of simplicity, harmonizing with the soul and resonating with emotions that are universally felt yet often overlooked. As we explore his works, we relish the quiet interplay of color, form, and space – a visual symphony that beckons us to pause and reflect.

Through Narod’s imagery we embrace our own journey of introspection. His art guides us to a place of inner tranquility, where the cacophony of modern life gives way to the soothing rhythm of simplicity. We find ourselves immersed in the delicate dance between the tangible and the intangible, where less is truly more.

Central to Kitti Narod's art is his commitment to celebrating life and vitality. His works often depict individuals in different, apparently random contexts, each with their own stories and identities. Through his brushstrokes, he captures moments  of everyday experiences, inviting viewers to empathize and connect with their narratives. As an artist, he becomes a storyteller, preserving moments of love, resilience, and self-discovery. His works challenge societal norms, questioning stereotypes, and foster a sense of belonging.

Pushing boundaries and disrupting preconceived notions about identity and gender, his depictions often challenge traditional gender roles and explore the fluidity of self-expression. Through his imagery, he encourages viewers to question rigid categorizations and embrace the complexity of human identity. Narod's art acts as a visual manifesto for a more inclusive and open-minded society.

Through his colorful brushstrokes and compelling narratives, Kitti Narod invites us to reimagine the boundaries of art, embrace the beauty of human diversity, and contribute to a legacy of understanding and acceptance.

Kitti Narod

Kitti Narod trained at Wittayalai Pohchang Art College, Bangkok, from 1996 - 1998, and later obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Rajamonkong Institute of Technology in 2000. He has exhibited extensively both domestically and internationally, including in Singapore, London, Bath, Edinburgh, Manchester, Dublin, Cork, Montreal, and Melbourne.

Kitti Narod creates paintings that convey a sense of joy and optimism through gentle and warm portrayals of daily life and human relationships. In his paintings, everyone and everything exist together in a utopia. This notion may seem unrealistic to some, especially during an era of social division, but the artist’s work tries to remind us to appreciate the simple pleasures and raise attention to everyday mundane matters. In which, euphoric feelings will not seem so unattainable. The artist considers his works to be an intersection for diversity, where all the physical and spiritual are equal.
